DOT Launches Korean-Speaking Support for Tourists in PH

In a bid to enhance travel experiences for South Korean tourists, the Department of Tourism (DOT) has launched Korean-language support in its Tourist Assistance Call Center (TACC). Starting February 1, 2025, travelers can now connect with Korean-speaking agents from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Philippine time) for direct assistance.

Improving Accessibility for South Korean Travelers

As the largest source of inbound tourists, South Korea remains a priority market for the Philippines. DOT Secretary Christina Frasco emphasized the importance of this initiative, ensuring that language barriers do not hinder travelers from fully enjoying the country’s attractions.

“As South Korea continues to be our top inbound market, this initiative ensures that Korean travelers can easily access assistance, allowing them to fully enjoy the warmth, hospitality, and attractions that make the Philippines a destination to love,” Frasco stated.

This move aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of a digitally empowered government, as DOT continues to upgrade its services for both domestic and international visitors.

Key Services and Contact Options

The TACC, which has handled over 13,500 transactions from 71 countries as of January 30, provides a range of services including:

  • Tourism inquiries – General travel information and recommendations
  • Travel and tour assistance – Guidance on tour packages and destinations
  • DOT accreditation – Support for tourism-related businesses
  • Career opportunities – Information on jobs in the tourism industry

For convenient access, tourists can reach the TACC through multiple channels, including:

DOT’s Award-Winning Commitment to Service

Under Secretary Frasco’s leadership, the TACC has gained recognition as one of Asia’s premier customer support platforms. It was recently awarded Best in Service – Customer Support (Regional Level) at the Asia Best of Best Awards 2024 in Dubai, UAE.

Beyond Korean-speaking agents, the DOT is working on expanding multilingual support to cater to an even more diverse range of travelers, including Mandarin speakers.

“We understand the role of language accessibility in creating a smooth and enjoyable travel experience,” Frasco added.

South Korea’s Growing Presence in Philippine Tourism

The expansion comes amid record-breaking visitor numbers from South Korea. In 2024, the Philippines welcomed 1,574,152 South Korean tourists, an 8.1% increase from 2023 and a 2.2% rise from pre-pandemic levels in 2019. South Korean travelers now account for 26.46% of total tourist arrivals in the country.

Strengthening Tourism Through Innovation

The addition of Korean-speaking support is part of a larger effort by the DOT to modernize tourism services and create a more seamless, accessible, and enjoyable experience for all visitors. As the department continues to roll out new innovations, tourists can expect better service, improved accessibility, and a world-class travel experience in the Philippines.
