Qualified Teachers, Non-Teaching Staff to Receive 2023 Performance-Based Bonus

Great news – Public school teachers and non-teaching personnel across the country are set to receive their 2023 Performance-Based Bonus (PBB), the Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed on Tuesday following the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) approval of the incentive’s release, as shared in this PNA report.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara welcomed the development, saying the bonus represents the government’s recognition of educators’ enduring commitment to quality education.

“This bonus is a testament to their unwavering dedication. We thank our partners in government for their continued support in uplifting the teaching profession,” Angara said.

According to the DBM, DepEd personnel scored around 80 points in the national eligibility assessment conducted by the AO25 Inter-Agency Task Force, qualifying them for the highest PBB rate. The 2023 bonus corresponds to 52 percent of an employee’s monthly basic salary — higher than the 48.75 percent granted in 2022 and 45.5 percent in 2021.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman commended DepEd employees for their consistent service, emphasizing that the incentive is part of the government’s broader effort to reward public servants based on performance.

“The approval of the 2023 PBB for the DepEd workforce reflects our shared commitment to recognize the hard work and vital contributions of our educators to national development,” Pangandaman said.

The DBM said it would coordinate with DepEd for the issuance of Special Allotment Release Orders (SAROs) and Notices of Cash Allocation (NCAs) to facilitate the disbursement. Regional and division offices will be notified once the funds are ready.

The Performance-Based Bonus forms part of the government’s results-based performance management system, which rewards civil servants who meet or exceed agency performance targets.

DepEd earlier stated that the release of the 2023 PBB is expected before the end of the year, offering timely financial relief and recognition for teachers and staff who have continued to adapt to the evolving challenges of public education.
