The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has swiftly sprung into action following a devastating fire incident in Barangay Leon Garcia, Davao City, that left more than 300 families homeless. DSWD Secretary, Rex Gatchalian, promptly instructed the Davao Regional Director, Vanessa Goc-Ong, to coordinate immediate relief efforts.
According to initial reports from the DSWD Field Office-11, 357 families or roughly 1,428 individuals were affected by the fire. However, personnel are currently on the ground conducting interviews to validate these numbers.
Coordinating with Local Government
As of the latest updates, Director Goc-Ong has been working closely with the local government unit (LGU) of Davao City. The aim is to augment resources and meet the immediate needs of the fire-stricken families.

The DSWD Davao Regional office holds an impressive inventory of relief supplies, with a value exceeding PHP86 million. These resources are immediately available for disaster mitigation operations.
