Significance of the Program

The WAP goes beyond existing OWWA programs, filling a crucial gap by providing cash relief to members and their families facing situations not covered by regular social benefits.

Whether it’s a natural disaster, a sudden illness, or an unexpected job loss, the program ensures that even when regular channels fail, a safety net exists.

The Legal Basis and Benefits:

Rooted in Republic Act No. 8042, the OWWA Act, the program’s legal foundation is solid. It empowers the agency to extend financial support in five key areas:

  1. Calamity Assistance: When typhoons, earthquakes, or floods strike, the program provides relief to affected OWWA members and their families.
  2. Bereavement Assistance: In the unfortunate event of an OFW’s death, the program offers aid to ease the financial burden on their loved ones.
  3. Disability Assistance: OWWA members who suffer disability due to accidents or crimes can access financial aid through the program.
  4. Medical Assistance: For illnesses not covered by the MEDplus program, the initiative offers a lifeline to ensure essential medical care remains accessible.
  5. Relief Assistance: In cases of displacement or job loss due to economic, political, or health crises, the program provides temporary financial support for OWWA members.

Note: The specific amount of financial support offered by the OWWA WAP varies depending on several factors, including:

  • Type: Each category (calamity, bereavement, disability, etc.) might have different allocated amounts.
  • Severity of the situation: The extent of damage, loss, or medical needs can influence the amount provided.
  • Location and circumstances: Costs vary depending on location and specific circumstances surrounding the situation.

Eligibility and Requirements:

To qualify for the program, you must be an OWWA member or a qualified dependent. The specific requirements vary depending on the aid type sought, but generally include valid IDs, proof of relationship, relevant documentation (e.g., medical certificates, police reports), and authorization letters where applicable.
