PCSO Charity Assistance Nears P4 Billion Milestone in 2024

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has reached a new milestone, distributing close to P4 billion in charity support so far in 2024.

PCSO General Manager Mel Robles shared this achievement during an interview at Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

“For charitable causes alone, it’s nearly P4 billion,” Robles explained.

He emphasized that a large portion—40%—of their funds is allocated to PhilHealth to back the Universal Health Care Law.

“Our mission is to raise funds for charity, but our focus must always remain on helping those in need,” Robles added.

Bigger Plans for 2025

For 2025, Robles expressed the PCSO’s commitment to expanding its reach.

He emphasized the importance of providing support to even more communities across the country.

“This organization is tasked with bringing aid to Filipinos,” Robles said.

“The way we raise funds is through the lottery, but our ultimate purpose is to deliver care and assistance,” he added.

Last year, the PCSO helped 300,000 individuals—an average of 1,000 lives improved every day.

Robles revealed plans to extend this impact even further in the coming year.

One of the agency’s goals is to provide at least one ambulance to every municipality in the Philippines.

Over the last two years, the PCSO has already donated 600 ambulances to towns and cities nationwide.

This effort aims to strengthen healthcare services, especially in areas where access remains limited.

Recognition for Excellence

The PCSO was recently named one of the top-performing Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) for the second consecutive year.

Robles described this honor from the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) as a gift worth celebrating.

“We didn’t expect to receive the award for Outstanding GOCC,” Robles shared.

“This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone in our organization,” he added.

Robles described this as the best period in PCSO’s history, with achievements backed by thorough evaluation and measurable results.

Addressing Public Concerns

The PCSO’s success comes despite scrutiny from some lawmakers over the integrity of lotto draws and the identification of jackpot winners.

Robles addressed these concerns, highlighting the organization’s compliance with global standards.

“We are part of the World Lottery Association and are ISO Certified,” he explained.

“Our contractors hold gaming licenses, and our systems include robust checks and balances,” Robles added.

The PCSO has also been recognized for its proactive transparency efforts, winning an award for compliance with the Freedom of Information Act.

“We know the public will always keep a close watch on us,” Robles said.

“That’s why we take extra steps to make sure everything is above board,” he added.

Real Impact on Lives

Robles emphasized that the PCSO’s work goes beyond numbers.

“It’s about changing lives,” he shared.

Every day, the organization provides assistance to those facing medical emergencies or financial hardship.

“These are real stories of hope and resilience,” Robles said.

From distributing ambulances to supporting individual medical needs, the PCSO continues to reach those who need it most.

Recent Updates

PCSO Expands Services for Faster Medical Assistance

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) now offers services seven days a week.

This key change aims to provide quicker medical and hospitalization aid to Filipinos in need.

The initiative, approved by President Marcos Jr., initially focuses on Metro Manila.

New Ambulance for Minglanilla

Minglanilla just got a new Patient Transport Vehicle (PTV) from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and President Bongbong Marcos.

They received it last October at Quirino Grandstand, Luneta Park, Manila, during PCSO’s 90th Founding Anniversary celebration.

Today, the vehicle has finally arrived in Minglanilla.

A big thank you to PCSO and President Bongbong Marcos for this generous support.

This vehicle will help serve more residents in need of medical assistance.

Expanding Healthcare Access Across the Philippines

President Marcos announced plans to provide at least one ambulance to every LGU in the Philippines.

This initiative aims to improve access to emergency medical services nationwide.

The program addresses previous challenges where requests for ambulances were often dependent on personal connections.

In a related effort, the “LAB for ALL” caravan continues to bring free healthcare services to underserved communities.

Looking Ahead

Despite the challenges of balancing healthcare funding with direct aid, Robles remains optimistic.

“Charity work will always come first,” he stated.

“We’re here to provide help and to make sure our resources are used where they matter most,” he added.

As the year draws to a close, the PCSO’s achievements are a reminder of what a well-managed government agency can accomplish.

Nearly P4 billion in assistance distributed in 2024 is more than a number—it’s a testament to lives touched and futures brightened.
