The Pagpupugay Scholarship, initiated by BPI Foundation in 2020, provides substantial educational support to the children and close relatives of medical front liners who were affected by COVID-19.
The scholarship offers up to Php 100,000 per academic year, covering tuition and other expenses, with additional financial assistance for state university students.
The program targets the next of kin of doctors, nurses, medical technologists, community health workers, and other healthcare facility personnel.
Eligible students must maintain a good academic standing and can apply through BPIF’s partner schools.

Program Overview
The Pagpupugay Scholarship was initiated in 2020 to provide educational assistance to the children and close relatives of our COVID-19 heroes.
BPIF has supported fifteen collegiate students since the program’s inception, with scholarships reviewed for renewal annually.
Scholarship Benefits
Each scholar will receive up to Php 100,000.00 per academic year.
This grant covers tuition and other incidental expenses, directly paid to BPIF’s partner institutions.
For scholars from state universities and colleges, the financial assistance also includes a monthly living subsidy and learning assistance allowance.
Eligibility Criteria
The scholarship is available to the next of kin of the following medical front liners who passed away or contracted COVID-19 in the line of duty:
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Medical technologists
- Community health workers
- Administrative, utility, and support services personnel in health care facilities
If the deceased is married, the children are the priority beneficiaries.
If single, beneficiaries can be next of kin up to the 3rd degree of consanguinity.
Applicants must be college/university students (1st year-4th year/5th year) enrolled in BPIF’s partner schools.
Eligible students must maintain a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 85% or its equivalent, or meet University standards for the previous academic year (for incoming 1st year) or for the previous semester (for incoming 2nd year-5th year).

- Fully accomplished scholarship application form
- Fully accomplished data privacy form
- Affidavit of Endorsement and of No Objection (for next of kin or frontliner)
- Endorsement letter from the hospital or health care facility
- Original or authenticated copies of course curriculum
- NSO-authenticated birth certificate (for children, siblings, or nephews/nieces of the medical frontliner)
- NSO-authenticated marriage certificate (for widows/widowers of the medical frontliner)
- PRC ID or License ID of the medical frontliner
- Death certificate or medical certificate indicating COVID-19
- Latest ITR of parents/guardian of the applicant
- Latest previous academic year Transcript of Records or Copy of Grades
- Certificate of good moral character
Scanned copies of application forms and supporting documents may be submitted, but hard copies will be required once applicants are selected.

Application Process
- Interested and eligible students can apply through BPIF’s partner schools.
- Partner schools will screen the applications and submit a shortlist of three nominees to BPIF.
- Successful applicants will be selected based on academic excellence and financial need.
- Selected scholars will be notified through their schools and the email provided in the application form.
